The Singapore Police Force (SPF) have released a statement following a serious attack on a River Valley High School (RVHS) student on Monday, July 19.
A 16-year-old Singaporean teenager, in Secondary 4, has been arrested for his suspected involvement in the death of a 13-year-old male Singaporean teenager, in Secondary 1.
The police received a call for assistance at 11:40am at the school, and found the victim motionless with multiple wounds at a toilet.
He was pronounced dead at scene by an SCDF paramedic.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two male teenagers did not know each other, and an axe was seized as case exhibit.
Investigations are being carried out to uncover the motive of the assault.
The 16-year-old will be charged in court with murder on July 20, with a view to seeking an order from the court to remand the teenager for psychiatric assessment.
Pending the court proceedings, the police is urging members of the public to refrain from speculating on the case out of respect for the family of the deceased.
MOE & RVHS' statement
The Ministry of Education and RVHS also released a joint statement on the tragedy, saying that they are extending support to the victim's family.
"The school has also reached out to students, parents and staff to provide counselling support and the necessary assistance to ensure their well-being," the statement read.
RVHS added that MOE works closely with schools to ensure campus security, but said that they are unable to comment further due to ongoing investigations.
