7 historical & cultural S'pore landmarks to be illuminated in national flag colours from Aug. 1 - 31, 2021

In celebration of Singapore's 56th National Day, the facade of seven buildings will be lit up from Aug. 1 to 31, 2021.

These buildings will be illuminated in the colours of the National Flag, red and white:

  • Central Fire Station
  • The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd
  • National Museum of Singapore
  • National Design Centre
  • Stamford Arts Centre
  • Objectifs - Centre for Photography and Film
  • The Cathay

The light-up

Cathedral of the Good Shepherd

One of the buildings that will be lit up is the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd, the oldest Catholic Church in Singapore.

It was constructed in 1843 as a place of worship for Singapore’s first Catholic community.

National Museum of Singapore

The National Museum of Singapore is the nation’s oldest museum, with a history that dates back to 1887.

Central Fire Station

According to National Heritage Board (NHB), the Central Fire Station is a symbol of the transformation of our nation’s early volunteer firefighting squads into a modern-day civil defence force.

Details

The buildings will be illuminated from 7:30pm to 12am from Aug. 1 to 31, 2021 "to inspire and encourage Singaporeans".

All seven buildings are also located in the Bras Basah Bugis (BBB) precinct, near other landmarks in the Civic District that will also be lit up, such as:

  • Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay
  • National Gallery Singapore
  • The Arts House
  • The Fullerton Hotel Singapore
  • Victoria Theatre
  • Victoria Concert Hall

National Day programmes

Alongside the light-up, The Asian Civilisations Museum, National Museum of Singapore, Indian Heritage Centre, and Singapore Philatelic Museum will also offer programmes online such as performances, workshops and tours.
