The Ministry of Health (MOH) has clarified that the recent death of a 16-year-old boy was not vaccine-related.
MOH said via a Facebook update on July 14 that it was aware of "speculation in Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp chatgroups" which featured an obituary.
The speculation led to conjecture that a teenager had passed away from a Covid-19 vaccine-related severe adverse event, said the ministry. However, it clarified that the teen's death was not vaccine-related.
"We urge the public not to spread unsubstantiated information which may add to the family’s grief or cause public alarm unnecessarily."
The obituary in question belonged to a 16-year-old boy who passed away on July 10.
Less than a week before, MOH reported that a 16-year-old boy suffered a cardiac arrest when he underwent a strenuous weight-lifting session after his Covid-19 vaccination.
Members of the public speculated that the boys in both incidents were one and the same.
