A 39-year-old man will be charged in court on Friday (July 2) for public nuisance and for breaching Covid-19 regulations after he failed to wear a mask while travelling on an MRT train.

The man will also be charged for using threatening words towards a public servant, after he threatened to knock down police officers who visited him during the investigation.

He declared he would never wear a mask

According to a police press release issued on July 1, the man was allegedly seen not wearing a mask on an MRT train on May 7, and declared on the train that he would never wear a mask.

When police officers visited him at his residence on May 9, he purportedly threatened to knock them down.

If found guilty of causing public nuisance, the man will be liable for imprisonment for up to three months, a fine of up to S$2,000, or both.

He will also be liable for a fine of up to S$10,000, imprisonment of up to six months, or both, if found guilty of breaching Covid-19 regulations.

In addition, if found guilty of using threatening words towards a public servant, he will be liable for a fine of up to S$5,000, imprisonment for a term of up to 12 months, or both.
