Weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz made history by claiming Philippines' first ever Olympic gold.

The 30-year-old lifted 127kg, beating China's Liao Qiuyun in the women's 55kg class. Previously, she had competed in Rio in 2016, winning a silver medal in the 53kg class.

Diaz is the daughter of a tricycle driver in a poor village, and had been training in Malaysia since 2020.

Free food & milk tea

In an interview with AFP following her gold medal victory, she was quoted saying that she will "eat a lot tonight", following all the sacrifices she has made during her training.

And to celebrate the occasion and also show appreciation to the athlete who has brought glory to their country, many F&B outlets were quick to offer her free food and drinks.

Cha Tuk Chak, a bubble tea store, offered Diaz 1 year's supply of "premium cheesecake milk tea", saying that they heard she loves cheesecake and milk tea.

Other restaurants, such as Kitchen Joes and Burger Garage (among many others), are also offering her free meals.

Kitchen Joes, a restaurant in Zamboanga — Diaz's hometown — is offering her free food "forever". They wrote in their post:

"You are free to eat anything in our menu forever... You deserve it!"

Burger Jones, also offered her free burgers for the rest of her life for giving them the "honor of a lifetime" and for "bringing glory to a nation longing for victory".
Apart from food, Diaz is also receiving lifetime free flights from AirAsia.

AirAsia Philippines said that this is "in recognition of her hard work, passion, and sportsmanship" displayed during the Olympics.

According to Manila Timesshe is awarded 80,0000 free miles per year and is also the airline's first "forever flyer".

Some posts on Facebook have also compiled the list of "incentives" that Diaz is purportedly being offered, which includes cash and housing.
