Covid-19 cases detected in 6 schools, including Raffles Institution, some impose Home-Based Learning

Each school has issued a letter to parents and guardians.

Year 1 to Year 4 students at Raffles Institution (RI) will be on full home-based learning (HBL) from Monday (July 19), The Straits Times reported.

In a July 18 school letter signed by RI principal Frederick Yeo and seen by Mothership, it is stated that a stall assistant at the school's canteen tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday (July 17).

According to the letter, the stall assistant was last seen in the school on Friday (July 16) and was "well when she was present in the school canteen".

The letter added that apart from collecting payment for meals from students and staff "which typically took a few seconds", the stall assistant had minimal contact with them.

The Year 1 to Year 4 students will be on HBL on Monday (July 19) to facilitate deep cleaning and disinfection of the canteen.

RI will also be conducting contact tracing to identify students and staff who were in close contact with the stall assistant while she was infectious.

Close contacts will be identified through contact tracing done by the school and information gathered through TraceTogether tokens and apps. Staff and students who have been identified as close contacts will be placed on Leave of Absence (LOA).

They will then be contacted by the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Yangzheng Primary School

On Sunday (July 18), a letter was also issued to parents and guardians with children from Yangzheng Primary School.

The letter, which was seen by Mothership, stated that a Primary 2 pupil had tested positive for Covid-19. She was last in school on Thursday (July 15) and was "well when present in school".

The letter also said that all Primary 2 classes will be placed on HBL on Monday (July 19) and Wednesday (July 21).

The school is conducting contact tracing to identify students and staff who were in close contact with the student during her infectious period.

Staff and students who have been identified as close contacts will be placed on LOA. The close contacts will then be contacted by MOH.

Punggol Cove Primary School

A letter from Punggol Cove Primary School, seen by Mothership, was addressed to parents and guardians and signed by principal Dennis Yap.

It stated that a Primary 3 pupil has tested positive for Covid-19. She is a household member of a confirmed case, and was last seen in the school on Thursday (July 15).

Close contacts will be identified both through the contact tracing done by the school and information gathered through TraceTogether tokens and apps.

Staff and students who have been identified as close contacts have be placed on LOA, the letter wrote. The close contacts will then be contacted by MOH.

The letter also stated that all Primary 3 students in the school will be on HBL from Monday (July 19) to Wednesday (July 21).

Horizon Primary School

Horizon Primary School also issued a letter, seen by Mothership, to parents and guardians on July 18. It was signed by principal Grace Leong.

According to the letter, a staff in the school has tested positive for Covid-19. It stated the staff is an "officer".

He was last seen in the school on Thursday (July 15). He is a household member of a confirmed case.

The school has conducted contact tracing and have placed close contacts on LOA.

There was no information regarding HBL for the students in the letter.

Naval Base Primary School and Opera Estate Primary School

On Friday (July 16), two schools issued letters to parents and guardians.

Both letters have been checked with the Ministry of Education (MOE), as reported by Today.

The first letter was from Naval Base Primary School. A Primary 6 pupil in the school had tested positive for Covid-19.

The other letter was from Opera Estate Primary School, where a Primary 6 pupil there had also tested positive for Covid-19.

The letters did not mention HBL or any operational changes.
