A scientist at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star) pleaded guilty to several charges today (July 5), including exposing his private parts to two women in a condominium and sexually harassing a woman by lying naked in her bed.

Masturbated in condo common area

According to court documents seen by Mothership, Xie Danpeng committed two offences of sexual exposure in April and June 2020.

On April 12, 2020, 30-year-old Xie stood in the common area of his condominium, Barossa Gardens, pulled down his shorts, and masturbated. He was seen by a woman who was passing by. She quickly took out her phone to film the incident.

As she was filming Xie, he continued looking at her while stroking himself. Alarmed, she ran back to her unit and showed her employer the video. The employer subsequently called the police.

At the same time, another female resident saw Xie masturbating from her balcony.  Xie made eye contact with her, causing her to be alarmed. She informed her boyfriend who ran out to the balcony and shouted at Xie.

Xie then ran back to his own unit, where he was later confronted by the man.

Xie was arrested by the police on the same day. After his arrest, he was evicted from his condominium.

He subsequently committed sexual exposure again on June 12, 2020.

This time, the police received a call from a woman who claimed that she was sexually harassed. According to the woman, Xie had trespassed into her room and laid completely naked on her bed. She then called the police.

In the course of their investigations, the police found that in the week prior, Xie had been walking around in his house wearing only transparent underwear.

Trespassed in condo and stole a bicycle

Aside from sexual exposure, Xie pleaded guilty to one count of criminal trespass. On April 19, 2020, he returned to his former condominium without prior permission by entering through an unlocked door leading to the rubbish collection area.

He also pleaded guilty to one count of dishonest misappropriation of property where he stole a bicycle, worth S$600, that was parked near the McDonald's outlet at Alexandra Retail Centre.

In total, Xie, who is a Chinese national, pleaded guilty to four charges on July 5:

  • Two charges of sexual exposure
  • One charge of criminal trespass
  • One charge of dishonest misappropriation of property

According to The Straits Times, Xie has a history of exhibitionistic and adjustment disorders. He is currently being assessed to see if he is suitable for treatment in lieu of jail time.

He will be sentenced on August 2.
