Those bored of traversing Singapore's plethora of existing parks and gardens, here's a new patch of nature to visit.

A brand new area, ABC Waters at Jurong Lake, is now open to the public.

Picturesque views

It is Singapore's largest patch of man-made floating wetlands.

The wetlands have a total area of 3,850m², and visitors can enjoy a picturesque view of the lake from the northern shore.

To get there, visitors can go through Jurong Park Connector along Yuan Ching Road, just next to Lakeside MRT station.

Visitors will be welcomed to ABC Waters by a boardwalk lined with panels in different shades of blue, which symbolise water, according to PUB.

There's a spacious viewing promenade and boardwalks for visitors to observe the scenery and wildlife in the wetlands. Community events can also be held here.

The place is also equipped with cozy, Instagram-worthy pavilions where visitors can rest and relax.

Not just a recreational spot

Additionally, there's a nifty thunderstorm warning system installed along the boardwalk.

An alarm will sound when a thunderstorm approaches, so visitors have ample time to pack their things and head for the exit.

Not only does ABC Waters at Jurong Lake serve as a new recreational spot to admire nature, the floating wetlands help improve the water quality of the reservoir, and provide a natural habitat for birds and fishes, thus enhancing the biodiversity at Jurong Lake.

This redevelopment is part of the Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme, which was also carried out at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park.

There, the narrow river was redesigned into a naturalised floodplain, and its carrying capacity increased by 40 per cent.
