Over 18,000 individuals have successfully registered for the upcoming Hari Raya Haji prayers across 66 mosques in Singapore on July 20, said Singapore's Minister for Social and Family Development and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Masagos Zulkifli.

Protecting Singapore's mosques

Masagos' wrote this in a Facebook post on July 16, where he reminded Muslims in Singapore to pray in mosques only if they have successfully made a booking.

This echoed the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore's (Muis) earlier Facebook post from the same day.In addition, Masagos advised those with a booked slot to check in via TraceTogether and adhere to Safe Management Measures (SMMs) in the mosques.

All these will play a part in protecting mosques in Singapore, wrote Masagos.

"Please don't pray outside the designated mosque spaces this Tuesday and similarly for Friday prayers as someone may be spreading the virus unknowingly and the mosque can be closed for not conforming to safe distancing measures. Let's all follow the health and safety rules so that our mosques can continue to operate safely."

In a separate Facebook post, Muis wrote all booking slots have been filled.

Those who were unable to book a slot may watch the mufti’s sermon on the morning of Aidiladha on SalamSG TV.

Covid-19 far from over

Masagos urged Muslims in Singapore to "stay vigilant" and adhere to Safe Management Measures to keep community transmissions low.

Referring to the recent KTV cluster, he expressed his disappointment in "some among us who acted rashly and breached the measures in the midst of the pandemic".

The incident serves as a "stark reminder that Covid-19 is far from over" wrote the minister.

Masagos appealed to the public for their cooperation and patience as more spaces in mosques are gradually opened up.

"Let us continue to work together and do our part diligently to break the chain of infection and keep our community and country safe."
