Eight cannabis trees and 23 bottles containing dried leaves believed to be cannabis, weighing 398 grammes, were seized during the raid, along with equipment for growing the plants such as ultraviolet lamps, oxygen tanks, coolers, booster fans, and heat lamps.

The total amount of drugs seized has since been estimated to be RM19,900 (S$6,430).

A pick-up truck that the police believe was purchased with proceeds from drug sales was also seized.

In addition, one of the suspects tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a component found in cannabis.

Came to Malaysia under guise of selling perfume

According to The Star, Kajang District's police chief, Mohd Zaid Hassan, said the trio's modus operandi to be as such:

"Investigations revealed the three Singaporean men were supposed to be here selling perfume.

They purchased the seeds from a U.S.-based website and spent nearly four months cultivating the plants and selling the leaves online."

Adding that the trio would find buyers via social media, he said the men had been distributing the drugs within Malaysia, with plans for distribution in neighbouring countries as well.

All three men have been placed in remand until June 30.
