The Ministry of Health in Singapore has debunked a claim circulating on messaging platforms that the authorities here have conducted an autopsy on a person who died of Covid-19 and discovered that it is a disease that can be treated with aspirin.

MOH put up a post on Facebook on June 7, 2021, calling out the fake news.

MOH wrote: "Singapore has not performed such an autopsy. The message states false information concerning the pathophysiology of Covid-19 infection, which is not borne out by current evidence."

Gibberish passed off as science

The fake news consisted of at least three parts.

The first part claimed that Singapore became the first country in the world to perform an autopsy on a corpse that was known to have died of Covid-19 infection, which goes against the advice of the World Health Organisation.

The second part claimed that the Covid-19 ailment is a disease that results in blood clotting in blood vessels and caused by bacterium instead of a virus.

And the third part claimed that Covid-19 can be treated with aspirin, or paracetamol, and that MOH has "evacuated more than 14,000 patients in one day and sent them home" having found the antidote.

Fake news previously mentioned Russia or Italy

This piece of fake has been making the rounds on WhatsApp and other messaging platforms.

Previous iterations of this fake news made use of Russia and Italy as the country that made the discovery instead of Singapore.

The fake news circulated on WhatsApp in full:

Singapore has become the first country in the world to perform an autopsy (post-mortem) for a Covid-19 corpse. After a thorough investigation, it was. discovered that Covid-19 does not exist as a virus, but rather a bacterium that has been exposed to radiation and causes human death by coagulation in the blood.

Covid-19 disease has been found to cause blood clotting, which causes blood clotting in humans and causes blood clotting in the veins, which makes it difficult for a person to breathe because the brain, heart and lungs cannot receive oxygen, causing people to die quickly.
