What might have been a nondescript bridge in Sengkang was propelled to TikTok fame after a user featured it in his video on May 30.
Here's a closer look at the overhead bridge in question, located near block 406B Fernvale Lane:
The overhead bridge, which is unsheltered, appears to help residents cross over a small road in a residential area.
In the video, the TikTok user questioned whether the bridge was actually useful.
In the video, he shows how one end of the bridge leads to a small garden, while the other end leads to the foot of two blocks of flats.
The TikTok user also showed how it is possible to cross the road underneath the overhead bridge.
He then ends the video by concluding that the overhead bridge may be useful for exercising.
The TikTok video was later re-uploaded to Facebook by another user.
In response to the post, online users joked about the possible functions of the overhead bridge:
Another online user pointed out that the overhead bridge is not useful for older residents or those with a stroller:

In a report by Lianhe Zaobao, MP Gan Thiam Poh explained that the bridge has a few uses.
Firstly, the overhead bridge functions as a sheltered walkway for people on the ground. It is also a drop-off point.
Lastly, Gan added, the bridge itself can be used as an observation deck for residents, where one can admire the greenery around them and pose for photos.
"If it's only an overhead bridge, few people might actually use it. But since it's designed for multiple purposes, one can maximise its use," he said.
