A piglet has drawn the attention of the Hong Kong public for hitching a ride aboard the city's public train system.

On June 18, the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group on Facebook shared a video and image of the young wild boar loose on a train.

The video showed the wild boar scampering around a train carriage and seemingly evading the a train worker with a large blue tarpaulin.

The image showed the piglet taking a rest on the train's reserved seats.

Forced a train to be diverted

According to the South China Morning Post, the lost piglet wandered into the Quarry Bay MTR station before boarding the train with train workers and animal welfare officers in hot pursuit.

The plucky piglet apparently led them on a chase through numerous carriages and platforms — even changing train lines at one point — entertaining commuters along the way.

Eventually, the last train the piglet found itself on was diverted to a depot where officers from the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Conservation Department (AFCD) managed to safely collect the runaway animal.

An AFCD spokesman said the young animal was not adversely affected by the incident and has been released back into a country park.
