Good news.

Mosques are making preparations to offer more spaces for Friday congregational prayers for those who are fully vaccinated or have successfully undergone pre-event testing.

In addition, new procedures for Safe Entry Check-in at mosques will also be implemented.

This move is in line with the new guidelines for worship services under Phase 3 (Heightened Alert), the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) said in a release on June 12.

Pilot

MUIS will also run a pilot on Friday (June 25) for four mosques. These mosques will open an additional zone per session for Friday prayers.

More spaces at more mosques will be made available over the subsequent weeks if the situation remains stable.

MUIS hopes to eventually be able to safely accommodate the maximum allowed number of places under Phase 3(HA), as more congregants in the community receive their vaccinations or get used to pre-event testing procedures.

Transitioning to Phase 3 (HA)

Tightened community measures under Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) will end on June 13, 2021.

From June 14, congregational and other worship services may take place with up to 250 attendees with pre-event testing (PET). PET will not be required for worship activities with 50 or fewer attendees.

Unmasking and singing or playing of wind instruments at live performances during worship services remain prohibited and may only resume from June 21.

At present time, mosques will continue to offer 50 places for congregational prayer every day.

Bookings can be made through the mosque online booking system here.

More details will be provided in the coming weeks.
