Shirtless man, 58, walks around Hougang Ave 5 with 2 knives, police called to scene

He was subsequently arrested for possession of offensive weapons.

A 58-year-old man was arrested at Hougang for possession of offensive weapons.

Residents called the police

Residents who spoke to Shin Min Daily News said that the man was walking around the neighbourhood shirtless, and had been carrying two knives.

The incident took place around 8am on June 7.

A 35-year-old resident told the Chinese paper that the man is a familiar face in the area. However, as residents were concerned that he might hurt somebody while walking around with the knives, they called the police.

The resident also said that the man subsequently sat down on the bench after roaming around with the knives. When approached by the police, he appeared slightly agitated when speaking to them.

Another resident, a 62-year-old female, saw the man leaving with the police at around 9am.

According to a photo of the incident, at least five policemen were present.

Man arrested, police investigating

In response to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed that the man was "armed with two choppers".

They said that the police received a call for assistance at Block 309 Hougang Avenue 5 on June 7, 8:11am.

A 58-year-old man was subsequently arrested for possession of offensive weapons.

No injuries were reported and police investigations are ongoing.
