Gyms and fitness studios may resume indoor, mask-off sports activities from June 21 onwards -- if the Covid-19 situation in Singapore remains "under control".

The Multi Ministry Task Force (MTF) made the announcement in a press conference on June 10.

Please adhere to safe distancing measures

Assuming all goes well, safe distancing measures will still be in place if gyms reopen.

There must be 2 metres between each person, and 3 metres between groups of up to five people.

Sports classes (both indoors and outdoors) will be capped at 30 persons, including the instructor. Groups must comprise of no more than five people.

Class participants may unmask if they are engaging in strenuous activities, although they are strongly encouraged to remain masked where possible to reduce the risk of transmission.

SportSG will release further details on this development in the near future.

Measures for staff

As part of the suite of measures to reduce transmission for mask-off activities, the government will require all staff who work at settings with unmasked clients or patrons to be placed on a Fast and Easy Testing (FET) regime.

This involves using tests such as the antigen rapid test (ART), regardless of their vaccination status.

This applies to staff at gyms and fitness studios where clients are unmasked.
