Man, 28, allegedly crashes funeral wake in Hougang to 'borrow' scissors to stab 30-year-old man

The 28-year-old was arrested by the police. Investigations are ongoing.

A 28-year-old shirtless man was arrested in Hougang after allegedly stabbing another man, aged 30, with a pair of scissors.

"Borrowed" scissors from funeral wake

The altercation took place at an open carpark near Blk 702 Hougang Avenue 2 on June 9.

Residents told Shin Min Daily News (SMDN) reporters that they had heard the two men arguing loudly prior to the attack.

At about midnight, the suspect had then allegedly crashed a nearby funeral wake, and asked the mourning family if he could "borrow" a pair of scissors.

Despite the family's refusal, the man had reportedly taken the scissors before heading back to the carpark, where the stabbing took place.

The police were then called down to the scene.

According to videos taken by some residents, the suspect had also picked up a a bamboo pole and began waving it around in the middle of the road at one point.

A resident, Li, also claimed that during the fight, the suspect had continued to kick and punch the 30-year-old, despite the latter having fallen to the ground.

Both men allegedly knew each other, although the cause of the fight is unclear.

Investigations ongoing

SMDN reported that the assailant had fled the scene after the attack.

In response to queries from Mothership, the police confirmed that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing hurt by  dangerous weapon at Block 702 Hougang Avenue 2 on June 9, at 12:16am.

The police added that the 28-year-old man has been arrested.

The 30-year-old man was conscious when conveyed to the hospital.

Police investigatio­ns are ongoing.
