Eng's Heritage, a restaurant at Northpoint City, has had its hygiene grade lowered from an 'A' to a 'C' with effect from June 25.
Was suspended in January 2021
The restaurant was initially suspended from Jan. 13 to Feb 26 after customers who ate there came down with food poisoning.
At the time of its suspension, 26 people were down with food poisoning. Five were hospitalised.
101 customers affected, 12 hospitalised
In an updated news release, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) stated that a total of 101 people were reported to have gastroenteritis symptoms after consuming food at Eng’s Heritage at Northpoint City between Jan. 6 and 9.
12 customers were hospitalised and have since been discharged.
All affected persons have recovered, added SFA.
Found several hygiene lapses
SFA had also conducted a joint inspection with the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Jan. 11 and found several hygiene lapses at the restaurant.
SFA has since adjusted the food hygiene grade of this outlet from 'A' to 'C'. This will be reviewed in 12 months.
The premises will also be kept under surveillance.
SFA reminded food operators to adhere to good food hygiene and safety processes.
The agency added that good hygiene practices, such as the washing of hands before handling food, can greatly reduce the incidence of gastroenteritis when adopted by all key stakeholders, including the industry and public.
