More suitable for human consumption.

The curious sight of a complete meal sitting at a HDB void deck caught the eye of a woman in Singapore, who took to Facebook to question the thinking of those who had apparently left it there for community cats.

"Did they really leave that there for the cats?" you might be wondering.

Turns out the answer is yes, according to Doshi, who confirmed that the meal was left under a HDB block in a reply to a comment on her Jun. 22 post in the "Sayang Our Singapore's Community Cats" group.

The meal, comprising rice with two vegetable dishes and a piece of chapati flatbread, was still "quite fresh", Doshi wrote.

Referring to the chapati, Doshi asked rhetorically: "Are they supposed to use their paw to tear it?"

Commenters expressed agreement that such food was not suitable for cats, and pointed out that the food had been left untouched, likely because the cats in the area did not want to eat it.

Others said that the food was likely to be more interesting to other kinds of creatures.

Or possibly even for those in the afterlife:

Other commenters — and Doshi herself — said they were inspired to get themselves some Indian food.

Not the first time less-than-ideal food left for community cats

Doshi shared that "random ghost feeders" in the area had left unsuitable food items for cats previously.

One of them had been told by a feeder not to leave food, but apparently retorted that the cats did not belong to the feeder.

Commenters on the post also chimed in with their own accounts of unsuitable food being left out for community cats being offered unsuitable food items, such as nasi lemak, fried fish and even fried chicken from KFC.

Certain food items may be harmful to cats

The person leaving the food behind may have had kind intentions, as one commenter observed.

However, the food could possibly have caused more harm than good, as some pointed out.

Onions, for example, can cause cats to develop anemia, according to PetMD.

Chocolate can apparently also cause cats to have heart arrhythmias, muscle tremors, or seizures.

And milk or dairy products can cause vomiting or diarrhoea, as cats can become lactose intolerant when they become adults.
