Chee Soon Juan's cafe is almost ready to welcome visitors.

The leader of the Singapore Democratic Party shared a snapshot on Facebook that offered a sneak peek at the cafe's "outdoor" dining area.

Café opening on Friday

In a contrast to his earlier post, which showed tables and chairs in an indoor setting, this area has an umbrella and some potted plants, along with tables where guests can sit and dine.

Chee said that he'd received feedback that the place looks "warm and cosy", which is what he and his wife Mei had in mind when they decided on opening the cafe.

He added:

"We wanted a place where Singaporeans can dine in elegance or chat away in a cosy corner or simply pull out a book with a coffee and enjoy a moment of solitude. Our idea is to serve up quality without burning your week’s wages.

In a way, the café is an extension of our home where music, books and loved ones matter most. That's why we had a piano and books brought in."

Café could have had a different name

Chee also revealed that he originally wanted to name the cafe "The Reading Room".

However, he was "outvoted" four to one in favour of his wife's idea, "Orange & Teal."

Those interested can visit the cafe located at the second floor of Rochester Mall, near Buona Vista MRT.

The cafe will start operating from June 25 (Friday). Here are its opening hours:

• Monday to Thursday: 11am - 9pm
• Friday: 11am to 10pm
• Saturday: 10am to 10pm
• Sunday: 10am to 9pm
