As if the sign didn't spell out in full that pet abandonment is a crime.

A cat in Singapore was abandoned right under a sign on a lamp post warning pet owners that animal abandonment is a crime here.

The incident was shared on Facebook on June 2, 2021, the day of the abandonment.

Abandoned inside box for several hours

According to the post, the female calico cat was suspected to have been abandoned at noon, as workers in the vicinity saw the box earlier in the day.

The cat inside, which is only a kitten, was rescued at 7pm by community cat feeders in the area.

She was believed to have been so scared she did not move from her position for several hours.

The post also revealed that the cat even soiled herself during the time she spent in the box.

The exact location of the abandonment was not specified.

Young cat

The post also said the cat is believed to be about three to four months old.

However, in a subsequent update, the post's caption said she is not even three months old.

This estimation is based on the size of her teeth, which the post said were still tiny.

The post also read: "Horrible super cruel people who abandoned her alone."

The sign on the lamp post meant to deter pet abandonment read: "Abandonment is a crime."

Under the Animals and Birds Act, those found guilty of abandoning an animal without a reasonable excuse can be fined up to S$10,000 or jailed for up to 12 months, or both.
