S'porean comedian Alias Kadir dies at 58, local personalities pay tribute

Comedian Alias Kadir has passed away this morning (June 28) at around 7:53am at the National University Hospital.

He was 58 years old.

Alias was known to star in several Malay sitcoms including "Bubur Masjid Air Katira" and was in the 2000 movie "Chicken Rice War".

Health complications

It was earlier reported that Alias had to amputate his right leg in May 2021 due to gangrene that had spread above his right knee.

In 2017, he had to amputate his left leg due to complications with diabetes.

According to Berita Mediacorp, he had been in the hospital for more than a month and was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) twice within the same period.

Speaking to his son Jumaat Azhar, Berita Harian reported that Alias experienced health complications including gangrene, bacterial infections and swollen lungs.

As a result, he had difficulty breathing and ate less.

Active volunteer

On June 17, Jamiyah Singapore launched a campaign to raise S$100,000 to help him cover his hospital bills and the cost of treatment and rehabilitation.

Alias was known to be a long-time volunteer at the welfare organisation and was actively involved in its various programmes and activities.

Local personalities pay tribute

Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in from local personalities and politicians, including Amrin Amin, Suhaimi Yusof and Maliki Osman.
