A Primary 1 student from Yio Chu Kang Primary School has tested positive for Covid-19 on May 12.

Student is close contact of infected household member

According to a letter sent by the school's principal to parents and guardians, as seen by Mothership on May 13, the student is a close contact of an infected household member.

The student was last in school on May 10 (Monday), and was feeling well at the time.

On May 11, the student was unwell and consulted a doctor.

After the student tested positive for Covid-19 on May 12, the school premises were thoroughly cleaned and disinfected, said Principal Ng Aik Boon.

According to the Ministry of Education (MOE), all students and staff members who have been in close contact with the student have been placed under Quarantine Order (QO) by the Ministry of Health (MOH) from May 12 to May 24.

All close contacts will also undergo PCR swab tests, as required by MOH.

Full Home-Based Learning for all students for three days

The principal also assured parents that the school has been tightly implementing Safe Measurement Measures (SMM), and will take additional precautionary measures in light of recent developments.

In addition, the school will be conducting full Home-Based Learning (HBL) for all students from May 14 to May 18.

With the exception of selected Primary 5 and 6 students, all after-school activities including CCAs will be suspended from May 19 to May 21.

The schedule for remaining Mid-Year Exam papers and Weighted Assessment for students from Primary 4 to Primary 6 will be adjusted as well, the school informed.

MOE urged all students and staff to continue practising good personal hygiene and adhere to Safe Management Measures.

"MOE is in contact with the school to provide the necessary support for teachers and students in conducting online learning. Teachers are also in contact with students and parents," the ministry said.
