The Workers' Party (WP) released a video on Tuesday (May. 25) to give words of encouragement to Singaporeans and bring attention to those who are struggling amid the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly during the current Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).

The video included several members from the party, including the WP Members of Parliament (MPs) from Sengkang GRC He Ting Ru, Jamus Lim, Raeesah Khan and Louis Chua, Hougang MP Dennis Tan, and former East Coast GRC candidates Nicole Seah and Kenneth Foo.

However, the WP members from Aljunied GRC Pritam Singh, Sylvia Lim, Faisal Manap, Gerald Giam, and Leon Perera did not appear in the video.

No room for complacency

The video started with Jamus Lim, who talked about the Covid-19 situation both in Singapore and in other countries.

She urged Singaporeans to not let the stress and anger created by the current situation "lead us to hate".

Showing empathy towards those who are struggling

Kenneth Foo then brought attention to those who are struggling amid the pandemic.

These included the people who have been affected by the virus, those struggling economically, as well as the "under-appreciated" essential workers like delivery riders and frontline healthcare workers.

Foo urged Singaporeans to show empathy towards them.

Raeesah specifically talked about the issue of domestic abuse, which has "worsened during lockdowns", and how women have had to take on multiple roles.

She said: "Whilst this pandemic has been tough for everyone, women in particular have been affected."

Seah encouraged Singaporeans to support their wives, mothers, and sisters who have to juggle various responsibilities during this difficult time.

"They need all the help and support that they can get at this period," added Seah.

The video then ended with Louis Chua, who encouraged Singaporeans to remain focused on tackling the pandemic, and building back a better Singapore.
