Keith Tan, a long-time Star Wars fan, decided to have a wedding shoot that was a little out of this galaxy.

Donned the full Mandalorian suit

On May 8, he was dressed not in a suit and tie, but rather, he cosplayed as The Mandalorian, complete with the iconic helmet and Baby Yoda.

His wife, Corrine Goh, was dressed in a white wedding gown, and was photographed holding a bouquet, or a Stormtroooper helmet in hand.

Tan uploaded the photoshoot on his Facebook page on May 11, and the photo album was shared more than 500 times.

Idea for shoot came after receiving helmet

Speaking to Mothership, Tan said that he had been a Star Wars fan since he was a child, when the Star Wars prequel trilogy was released.

"I managed to successfully convert my wife [into a fan] when the sequel trilogy came out", Tan said, referring to Star Wars movies that came out from 2015 to 2019, including the latest one, The Rise of Skywalker.

He said that they naturally became huge fans of The Mandalorian, and of course, Baby Yoda.

This actually wasn't the first Star Wars-themed one they had, as they did one for a pre-wedding photoshoot on their own in 2020.

The idea for a Mandalorian-themed wedding photoshoot came about after Tan's order for the Star Wars Black Series Mandalorian Helmet by Hasbro came in in March 2021, one month before his wedding in April.

As such, he decided to incorporate it into the wedding gatecrash, and to make the rest of the costume to go with the helmet for the photoshoot.

When asked about how his photographer, Jessica Lim from Wemerrygoround responded to their plans, he noted that she was "perfectly cool" with it.

"Our photographer is an old friend of ours. She was perfectly cool and professional about it as she is used to our antics by now HAHAHA. She also shot our pre-wedding photoshoot at IKEA."

The couple were very comfortable with their photographer, and the shoot, which took place on their wedding day, proceeded quite smoothly.

He noted that they "did get a handful of second glances" but being a quiet neighbourhood, it wasn't too bad.

The couple picked the location to be at the neighbourhood near Goh's house, because it reminded the couple of their nostalgic hangouts in their younger years.

"It's not really a significant location, but we did spend some of our younger days hanging out at the playgrounds/void decks throughout our past 10 years together."

DIY-ed costume for the shoot

Tan, who calls himself an amateur cosplay hobbyist as well, had some experience in making his own costumes; having cosplayed as Mysterio from Spiderman: Far From Home in 2019.

As such, he was able to fully DIY the rest of the costume with the help of some Youtube videos and reference photos.

He made use of lightweight EVA foam for the armour pieces and old cloths and belts for the undersuit and pants.

The total cost of the entire costume set him back about S$190 for the helmet, and approximately S$50 to S$70 for the foam and spray paints used to make the costume.

When Tan saw the photos, he was "surprised" with how photogenic his costume looked, and how it contrasted nicely with his wife's wedding gown and her bouquet.

"We were very happy with the photos as it features so many things that we love, and the photoshoot is one that we will look back on with fond memories."

Tan concluded his reflections on the shoot with an encouraging piece of advice (and a nod to Yoda):

"To anyone who's hesitant about doing things differently, we say: Do or do not, there is no try."
