A 16-year-old male teenager has been sentenced to probation for one-and-a-half years for making obscene films of naked boys in Sengkang Sports Centre's men's toilet on May 7, according to Today.

He was 15 when he committed the offences. He took a total of 58 videos on Sep. 22, 2019 and Oct. 19, 2019.

The sentencing

On Mar. 16, he pleaded guilty to 10 charges of making an obscene film under the Films Act, according to Channel News Asia. An additional 48 charges were taken into consideration in the sentencing.

The accused is also required to remain indoors from 9pm to 6am, complete 70 hours of community service and attend cognitive behavioural treatment specific to the offence.

District Judge Kessler Soh also banned the teenager from using mobile phones with recording abilities, until a psychologist deems it suitable, and his electronic devices will be checked randomly.

A bond of S$5,000 has been posted by his parents to ensure good behaviour during his probation.

From the court documents, the accused teenager was fully aware of the films' obscene nature. He cannot be named due to his age.

As a large number of offences had been committed, Deputy Public Prosecutor Magdalene Huang noted that the accused can be considered a serial offender, according to the Straits Times.

However, taking into consideration his age and that he had no history of previous convictions, the prosecution did not object to the judge's call for a probation suitability report.

The judge told the teenager to put aside "whatever that caused you to take these pictures".

Caught in the act

From the court documents, the teenager was caught red-handed on Oct. 19, 2019 after the police received a call for assistance.

At about 12:15pm, the complainant was making his way to the changing area in the men's toilet at Sengkang Sports Complex to accompany his son, who had just completed his swimming lesson.

The complainant confronted the teenager after he noticed the teenager pointing his phone towards his son. The teenager became afraid and proceeded to hide in a cubicle within the toilet. The complainant then sought assistance from the staff, who called the police.

Upon their arrival, police found the accused with two iPhones, both with clips of boys changing or coming up from the shower cubicles in varying stages of undress.
