Taiwan reports 206 new Covid-19 cases on May 16, highest daily count ever

Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 206 new local Covid-19 infections on May 16 (Sunday), the highest daily count the region has seen since the start of the pandemic.

Taiwan experiences sudden surge in Covid-19 cases

According to Taiwan's health minister Chen Shih Chung, the infections include 90 men and 116 women between the ages of four and 80, reported Taiwan News.

The new cases were found across eight cities and counties. Taipei and New Taipei are two of the largest infection hotspots, each recording 97 and 89 cases respectively.

Taiwan has been experiencing a sudden spike in cases, with 180 cases reported on May 15.

All individuals in Taiwan required to wear masks outside their homes

The Taiwan administration has placed the region on Level 3 Alert.

Under the raised alert, all individuals are required to wear masks when they leave their homes.

Indoor gatherings of more than five people are not allowed, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people, according to Focus Taiwan.
