The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) clarified a situation after the Darul Makmur Mosque in Yishun stated publicly that it does not participate in political activities.

On May 15, the PSP Nee Soon Facebook page shared a post saying that its planned Hari Raya outreach event on May 1 was cancelled due to the "latest Covid-19 situation."

However, it still wished to distribute some dates, and donated them to the mosque and the Thye Hua Kwan Moral Society.

However, on May 17, the mosque's Facebook page shared a post stating that it was not aware that the donation was made on behalf of a political party.

It was also not aware that the donation would be publicised on their social media.

According to the mosque, a man contacted them and said he wished to arrange for the donation of some dates.

However, it stressed that it does not accept donations from political parties.

PSP clarifies situation with Mothership

Speaking to Mothership, a PSP representative shared that the person who arranged for the donation is a member of the party.

However, he had "no intention" to politicise the donation.

He also instructed the Nee Soon branch to remove the name and any photos of the mosque that might associate it with PSP.

He also apologised for the inconvenience caused.

The PSP representative also added: "The mosque responded and the matter has been resolved. [We'd] like to thank the management for their understanding."
