Interesting.

From now till Jul. 14, 2021, Pizza Hut Singapore is selling the Nasi Lemak Pizza.

The item features a combination of spicy chicken chunks, egg, cucumber and ikan bilis, topped with sambal sauce.

It will be available at all 77 Pizza Hut Singapore outlets for takeaway and delivery.

An à la carte carte regular Nasi Lemak Pizza is priced at S$30.90.

However, if you order a pizza for takeaway or two pizzas for delivery, there's a 50 per cent off all pizza flavours.

Alternatively, you can purchase a Nasi Lemak Box (S$25.50 for two to three pax) which includes:

  • One regular Nasi Lemak Pizza
  • Choice of a side: Four-piece Chicken Tenders or Spicy Chicken Pop with sambal sauce
  • One garlic bread

Nasi Lemak Boxes for bigger groups are also available (up to S$54.90 for six - eight pax).

Taste test

First impression: The Nasi Lemak Pizza looks impressive with its variety of ingredients and toppings.

Here's a closer look:

Each slice of pizza had a good portion of most of the ingredients – spicy chicken chunk, egg, cucumber, ikan bilis and sambal sauce.

They were also securely attached to the base so you won't have bits of ikan bilis flying off.

Each bite was crunchy, in a good way, as we sunk our teeth into the crispy ikan bilis and cucumber.

Statistically speaking, however, since it was not possible for every square inch on the pizza to be loaded with ingredients, we found certain parts without the sambal and spicy chicken kind of bland.

In addition, one common ingredient usually found in Nasi Lemak is missing – peanuts.

It's also worthwhile to note that sambal sauce is on the savoury side (it tastes almost sour), instead of spicy or even sweet, which some may or may not prefer.

Overall, those who like nasi lemak may find this version intriguing enough to try at least once.

But would we eat an actual nasi lemak over this? Yeah.

Rating: 5/10. It's a pass. Sort of.

Spicy Chicken Pop

We also tried the Spicy Chicken Pop with sambal sauce which tasted like regular popcorn chicken doused in spicy sauce.

While it didn't taste too bad on its own, it wasn't spectacular either.

Again, the sambal sauce that accompanied it was slightly sour, so we opted not to dip it in the sauce.

Perhaps fans of sour and spicy food might enjoy this more.

Rating: 4/10 with sauce, 6/10 without sauce.
