A rosy-faced lovebird, which is a type of parrot, instinctively flew onto a woman's head along Bedok North Street 3, as if it instinctively knew she will be the human who could render help.
It turns out, the woman the bird picked was the perfect person as she is currently a parrot owner and knows how to deal with avian creatures, especially one that is injured.
A video of the incident was put up on TikTok by @f.zna on May 13, 2021.
Bird chooses its human
The video showed the moment the bird looking up at the woman near a bus stop along the road and flying straight at her without qualms.
The video has since been watched 326,000 times.
Bird remained on her head like it's a nest
In one quick-cut scene, the woman can be heard saying: "I'm just hoping it doesn't shit on me."
The caption then read: "It did."
The woman then approached a passer-by for assistance to remove the bird from her hair, as another person looked on in the background.
The passer-by gamely did, but not before asking if the bird belonged to the woman.
The bird could be heard squeaking.
The subsequent scene showed the bird with a broken leg, but appeared not to be in distress or discomfort.
Bird brought to vet
In a follow-up video on May 16, the woman responded to the widespread interests and queries that arose in the aftermath of her video circulating widely on TikTok.
The woman said she took the bird to the vet, where it was "very well taken care of".
The bird was diagnosed with a broken leg, the woman said, but was also told that it was not in pain, which puzzled her.
She said: "I don't know what that means."
She had also put up a notice regarding the bird in lost and found forums for pets, but those who went to check out the bird at the vet were not the owner.
The woman also said the vet will not allow the bird to be adopted until they have followed their own protocol to locate the owner.
The woman also said she cannot take in the lovebird as she is the owner of a cat and a parrot.
Owner of lovebird located
Owing to the serendipitous connections of social networks, the owner of the lovebird was found.
One viewer who saw the TikTok video was aware of a woman who runs a shop in the Bedok North neighbourhood who had lost a parrot recently and was asking people in the vicinity if they saw her pet.
This led to the lovebird to be reunited with its owner.
