A family comprising a nurse and his wife who works in the service line and their two young children have been harassed by their neighbour for a year and counting.

News of the harassment first came to light a year ago on May 18, 2020.

The neighbour has been seen throwing soapy water on the ground and repeatedly spraying disinfectant in the direction of the nurse's family.

The harassment was even called out by Sengkang General Hospital, where the husband works at as a nurse.

This was after videos of the harassment were first put up online and widely condemned by the public.

Harassment persists

However, despite the public attention, the most recent act of harassment was caught on camera, and believed to have taken place as recently as May 2021.

Footage showed the neighbour pouring a pail of soapy water on the corridor floor just as the nurse's wife was preparing to head off to work.

When the woman looked at the neighbour, he responded in expletive-laden Hokkien: "What are you looking at?"

The neighbour then slammed the gate shut.

Spraying disinfectant in family's direction

Earlier on March 3, 2021, the husband highlighted another incident on Instagram showing the extent of harassment by his neighbour.

The husband posted two surveillance videos of encounters from December 2020 and March 2021.

In December last year, the neighbour was caught spraying disinfectant out of the gate while the nurse's young son was waiting outside.

And on the morning of March 3, the neighbour again threw water in front of his home as the nurse was taking his child out for school.

In the video, the son can be seen at the front gate preparing to leave the house when buckets of water are thrown outside.

These acts of spraying and pouring substances always coincided when the family was at the door.

The nurse wrote:

"Sending my son to school, soap water outside the house. Still being sprayed. They claim to spray their gate and always a coincidence my son was there. When actually they can spray all they want when no one is home or after the kids are out in school."

In response to the pouring of soapy water on the ground, the family would clean up the liquid as it can get slippery.

But their efforts are negated as their neighbours will do it again.

Spray causes discomfort to children

The strong disinfectant smell has even caused the young boy in the family to cough when he inhales it.

The father wrote: "My son would cough due to the strong smell of the disinfecting solution and when he cough, the school centre will reject him."

The coughing becomes an issue if the father takes his son to the doctor, who will then likely put the child under Stay-Home Notice, and the parents will have to take care of the child at home.

The father then questioned if he and his wife run out of leave or childcare leave, will they have to resort to taking no-pay leave just to stay home with the child.

Background

In May 2020, the Sengkang General Hospital wrote on Facebook that it was aware of the harassment involving their staff.

According to the husband, the family had lodged a police report in 2020 after Dettol spray came into contact with his young daughter's face.

He added that the police advised him to lodge a magistrate's report as they were unable to take action without a court order.

However, he had second thoughts on the matter because they are still living beside the neighbour next door.
