Large crowds on MRT platform & in trains due to Circle Line delay on May 21, SMRT sorry

Commuters on the Circle Line had no choice but to wait and congregate on the platforms after the trains were delayed on Friday morning (May 21) due to a signal fault.

Train operator SMRT announced the delay on Twitter at 5:21am, telling commuters to add 15 minutes of travel time between Lorong Chuan and Caldecott.

They added an update at 5:27am, informing commuters about free regular bus services between Paya Lebar and Buona Vista.

At 5:41am, SMRT told commuters to add additional 30 minutes to their travel time on the Circle line.

A commuter who was affected by the train delay shared some pictures on Twitter.

Train service were progressively returning to normal at 7:15am, with one user expressing relief that the issue was resolved before the morning peak hour.

At 7:30am, train services had resumed and SMRT ceased the free regular and bridging bus services.

SMRT also apologised for the delay that affected the morning commute.

The situation on the train appeared to be packed based on a tweet after 8am.
