Changi Prison inmate, 6-year-old S'porean student among community Covid-19 cases on May 15

There have been 61,536 Covid-19 cases reported in Singapore.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 31 new cases of Covid-19 infection on May 15.

This brings the total number of cases to 61,536.

19 of the cases announced on May 15 are in the community. There are no new cases in the dormitories.

The remaining 12 cases are imported.

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 43 cases in the week before to 103 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from six cases in the week before to 16 cases in the past week.

19 cases in the community

There are 19 cases in the community, of whom 17 are linked to previous cases and two are currently unlinked.

Unlinked cases

Case 63236 is a 53-year-old male Singaporean who works as a personal chauffeur. He developed a sore throat on May 12, and a fever the next day.

He sought medical treatment at a General Practitioner (GP) clinic on May 13, where he was tested for Covid-19. His test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection the next day, and his serology test result is negative.

He has tested preliminarily positive for the B1617 variant, and is pending further confirmatory tests.

Case 63237 is a 49-year-old male Singaporean who is currently unemployed. He developed a sore throat on May 12 evening, and sought medical treatment at a GP clinic the next day, where he was tested for Covid-19.

His test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection on May 14. His serology test result is pending.

He received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on May 10.

Changi Prison inmate

Case 63253 is a 32-year-old male Singaporean who is an inmate at Changi Prison Complex.

He is a close contact of Case 63160, a 39-year-old male China national employed by SATS Food Services Pte Ltd as a chef at Changi Prison Complex, who was confirmed to have Covid-19 on May 13.

Case 63253 was placed on quarantine on May 13. He is asymptomatic, and was detected when he was tested for Covid-19 on the same day. His test result came back positive on May 14.

Case 63131 cluster (Learning Point tutor)

Case 63131 is a 50-year-old female Singaporean who works as a tutor at Learning Point, who was confirmed to have Covid-19 on May 12.

Case 63251 is a 41-year-old male Singaporean who works as a sales personnel at Aero Light Pte Ltd. He is a family member and household contact of Case 63187 — an 8-year-old male Singaporean who is a student at Kong Hwa School and attended classes at Learning Point — and was placed on quarantine on May 12.

He was tested for Covid-19 the next day, and his test result came back positive on May 14, and his serology test result is negative. He developed a runny nose the same day.

Case 63259 is a 12-year-old male Singaporean, and Case 63268 is an 8-year-old male Singaporean who are siblings, and students at St Andrew’s Junior School.

They took the same school bus as Case 63186, a 9-year-old male Singaporean who is a student at St Andrew’s Junior School, and attended classes at Learning Point.

Case 63268 developed a fever on May 13, and sought medical treatment at a GP clinic on the same day, while Case 63259 developed a runny nose on May 14.

Both were tested for Covid-19 on May 14, and were placed on quarantine on the same day, as they had been identified as close contacts of Case 63186.

Their test results came back positive on 15 May, and their serology test results are pending.

Case 63096 cluster (operating theatre nurse at Sengkang General Hospital)

Case 63096 is a 33-year-old male Philippines national who works as an operating theatre nurse at Sengkang General Hospital. He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on May 11.

Case 63256 is a 6-year-old male Singaporean who is a student at Palm View Primary School. He is a classmate of Case 63122 at EduFirst Learning Centre (Hougang) and was placed on quarantine on May 12.

He is asymptomatic, and was detected when he was tested for Covid-19 on May 14 during quarantine. His test result came back positive the next day. His serology test result is pending.

Case 63257 is a 7-year-old male Singaporean who is a student at Yio Chu Kang Primary School. He is a schoolmate of Case 63122, and also his classmate at EduFirst Learning Centre (Hougang).

He was placed on quarantine on May 12, and tested for Covid-19 on May 14 during quarantine even though he is asymptomatic. His test result came back positive for Covid-19 infection on the same day. His serology test result is pending.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital cluster

One more case has been linked to the Case 62541 cluster, a 46-year-old nurse at Tan Tock Seng Hospital who is deployed at Ward 9D.

Case 63248 is an 80-year-old female Singaporean who had been warded in Tan Tock Seng Hospital Ward 9D from Apr. 5, and was transferred to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) on Apr. 28.

Case 62873 cluster (Changi Airport Terminal 3)

Eight more cases have been linked to the Changi Airport Terminal 3 cluster of case 62873, an 88-year-old cleaner at Changi Airport Terminal 3 who was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on May 5.

  • Case 63235 is a 25-year-old female Malaysia national who works as an assistant cook at Kopitiam located at Changi Airport Terminal 3.
  • Case 63238 is a 24-year-old female Singaporean who works as a technology associate at Toronto-Dominion Bank.
  • Case 63239 is a 42-year-old female China national who is employed by Ramky Cleantech Services Pte Ltd as a cleaner at Robinson 77.
  • Case 63240 is a 52-year-old female China national who is employed by Ramky Cleantech Services Pte Ltd as a cleaner at Robinson 77.
  • Case 63242 is a 56-year-old female Singaporean who is a homemaker, and Case 63243 is a 26 year-old male Singaporean who is a freelance photographer.
  • Case 63252 is a 70-year-old female Singaporean who works as an executive at 1FSS Pte Ltd.
  • Case 63255 is a 52-year-old male Singaporean who is employed by SATS as a customer service officer at Changi Airport Terminals 1 and 3.

One past case (Case 62998) that was announced on May 9 has also been linked to the Case 62873 cluster, as revealed by genome sequencing and phylogenetic analysis conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory.

Further epidemiological investigations are ongoing to determine how the cases are linked.

Close contacts of past cases

Two new cases are close contacts of past cases.

Case 63241 is a 55-year-old female Singaporean who is a homemaker. She is a family member and household contact of Case 63166, a 22-year-old male Singaporean who works as a cook at WOK HEY (White Sands) who was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on May 13.

Case 63249 is a 70-year-old male Singaporean who is a retiree. He is a family member and household contact of Case 63183, a 70-year-old retired female Singaporean who was confirmed to have Covid- 19 infection on May 13.

12 imported cases

The 12 imported cases had all already been placed on SHN upon arrival in Singapore and were tested while serving SHN.

One (Case 63254) is a Singaporean and six (Cases 63247, 63263, 63264, 63265, 63266 and 63267) are Singapore Permanent Residents who returned from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

One (Case 63258) is a Work Pass holder who arrived from Sri Lanka.

Four (Cases 63244, 63260, 63261 and 63262) are Work Permit holders who arrived from Indonesia and the Philippines.

MOH noted that the arrivals from the Indian sub-continent had already come into Singapore before the restrictions on travel were imposed.

190 remain in hospitals

15 more cases of Covid-19 infection have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities. In all, 61,062 have fully recovered from the infection.

There are currently 190 confirmed cases who are still in the hospital, most of whom are stable or improving.

Three are in the intensive care unit (ICU).

253 cases who have mild symptoms or who are clinically well, but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

31 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

14 new locations added to list of places visited by infectious cases

MOH regularly updates a list of public places visited by confirmed Covid-19 cases for more than 30 minutes when they were infectious.

14 new locations were added to the list on May 15.
