A maximum of two passengers are allowed to ride in taxis and private-hire cars during this period of tightened Covid-19 restrictions.
The restriction does not apply to passengers from the same household though, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Sunday, May 16.
Singapore entered the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) period on May 16 to last till June 13 after Covid-19 cases spiked in the community.
Carpooling services such as GrabHitch and RydePool are halted until June 13.
Such commercial services allow drivers to receive payment for ferrying passengers while en route to their destination.
In their absence, carpooling trips on a non-commercial basis can still continue among friends or colleagues if they stick to two pax, LTA said.
For bigger groups not from the same household, they must split into groups of not more than two.
Illegal carpooling services witnessed by the public can be reported to LTA via the OneMotoring portal using the e-service “Report Vehicle-Related Offences”, LTA said.
