The iconic Mount Vernon school gate at Maris Stella high school will be demolished to make way for the development of the Bidadari housing estate.

Demolished after May 31

On May 12, the school's official Facebook page shared that the school gate will be demolished after May 31, 2021.

The gate was erected in 1997 when the school re-opened after extensive redevelopment.

It can be easily identified by its cobalt blue tiled roofs and the cross and is considered a historic part of the school's infrastructure.

New archway to be built

A new archway will be constructed within the school after the new school entrance at Bartley Walk is completed.

There are 12 public housing development projects in Bidadari.

The final three projects launched in a BTO sales exercise in Feburary, The Straits Times reported.

The school added in their post that they welcome students then and now to come and relive their memories of the structure before it's gone while keeping safe-distancing measures in mind.
