If you are buying coffee from a traditional coffeeshop, here's a hack to reduce the use of plastic containers.

Some stalls like this one in Choa Chu Kang can allow you to take away kopi or teh in "tee kong".

"Tee kong" refers to the empty condense milk tin cans.

Take away coffee in a tin can

Recently, a member of Facebook group "Can Eat! Hawker Food", Jeremiah Sean Ang, tried taking away his coffee in a tin can.

Ang shared that he managed to do so at a coffeeshop stall, 85 Degrees, located along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1.

Here's how the kopi is served:

Ang added that the tin was "super hot" but the coffee was "fragrant". He told Mothership that he found out about this after seeing his neighbours doing it. This is a coffeeshop that he frequents and he has seen the tins hanging at the stall but this is his first time trying it out.

For some, having traditional kopi served in a tin might be nostalgic as it was a common sight in the past.

A few of the Facebook group members who commented that it is hard to find coffeeshops that allow takeaways in tin cans these days even though it was common in the 50s.
