A 43-year-old woman, who berated and spat at KFC staff on camera in April 2020, has been sentenced to nine months' probation on May 24.

What happened?

On Apr. 22, 2020, Lin Si Ting visited the KFC outlet at NEX shopping centre at around 12:40pm.

Six minutes after placing her order at the counter, she returned to the counter and berated the staff for allegedly taking a long time to fulfil her order, and demanded that they serve her immediately.

The service manager, 40, apologised to Lin and told her to wait five more minutes for her order as that there were other orders ahead of hers.

Upset by the outcome, Lin demanded a refund if she was not going to be served immediately.

The service manager agreed to the refund and asked for the receipt, which Lin threw at her.

While waiting for her refund, Lin pulled down her mask and verbally abused the staff with profanities.

In a viral video shared on Facebook, she gestured aggressively at the service manager while yelling, "Wait for you to die, wait for your whole family to die."

She subsequently spat at the service manager twice before stomping off with the refunded cash.

Lin returned after a few minutes, accusing the staff of refunding her less than the amount she had paid.

The service manager confirmed that the refund amount was correct after checking the order records.

Lin shouted at her again and left before the police arrived.

Nine months' probation

Lin had pleaded guilty to harassing and using criminal force on the staff on Jan. 28, 2021.

According to The Straits Times, the court was informed that Lin is receiving treatment for schizophrenia.

She was found to be suitable for probation instead of a mandatory treatment order.

In addition, Lin's mother has been bonded for S$5,000, which is one of the probation requirements.

For harassment, Lin could be liable for imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to S$5,000, or both.

For using criminal force on the staff, she could also be liable to imprisonment of up to three months, a fine of up to S$1,500, or both.
