During Circuit Breaker last year, the grace period for short-term parking in all Housing & Development Board (HDB) and Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) car parks was extended from 10 to 20 minutes, to facilitate the increase demand and volume of deliveries.

After Circuit Breaker ended, the grace period returned to 10 minutes.

On Friday (May 21), in the midst of Singapore's Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) period, Minister for National Development Desmond Lee announced that the grace period for parking in HDB and URA car parks will again be extended to 20 minutes.

More deliveries because of people staying home

In a Facebook post on Friday, Lee noted that under the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) measures, more businesses have been hit, and more people have been staying home in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

As a result, the demand for deliveries has increased.

He announced that HDB and URA will extend the grace period for parking HDB and URA car parks from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, effective Sunday (May 23).

He commended CapitaLand for also extending the grace period for parking at its malls, and encouraged other malls and businesses in the private sector to do the same, in order to show support to delivery workers.

HDB also shared a Facebook post on Friday reminding delivery riders that they can use loading and unloading bays to make quick home deliveries.

Extension of season parking waiver for private buses

On Friday, Enterprise Singapore also announced that it will be extending the waiver of season parking fees for private buses, including coaches, at government-owned car parks.

HDB and URA will continue to support this effort, Lee said.
