The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has debunked a video shot at Changi Airport claiming to show South Asian passengers arriving here via Terminal 1 as recent as May 5, 2021 afternoon.

CAAS put up a post on Facebook calling out the misinformation.

CAAS wrote: "The post is misleading. This video was not taken on 5 May 2021."

CAAS was referring to a post of the video put up by Singapore Incidents Facebook page.

The video was watermarked with the May 5, 2021 date and said it was shot at Changi Airport.

Following CAAS's statement, the Singapore Incidents video was removed.

Video not recent

Even though the video was taken at Terminal 1, it was shot before April 5, 2021.

Passengers were seen walking past gate hold room D42/43, which had a renovation hoarding.

But CAAS said the hoarding was removed on April 5, 2021 and the video could not have been taken after that date.

However, CAAS did not say when the video was taken.

Video shared by others

The video shared by Singapore Incidents was not the original video.

The original video without any watermark appeared to have been shared on Facebook on May 5 at 7pm by one individual.

It was shared again by another individual on May 5 at 7:35pm.
It was then reshared by at least one local politician on May 5 at 11:50pm.

You can read the CAAS statement in full here:

You may have come across a video posted on social media, showing a large group of South Asian passengers arriving at Changi Airport Terminal 1.

In the post published by Singapore Incidents Facebook page on 5 May 2021 at 2142 hours, the video in the post has a watermark which states the date as 5 May 2021 and the location as Changi Airport.

The post is misleading. This video was not taken on 5 May 2021.

The video showed the passengers arriving at Changi Airport Terminal 1, and a clock indicating 1453 hours. No flights from South Asia had arrived at Terminal 1 in the early afternoon of 5 May 2021.

Based on the video footage, passengers were seen walking past a renovation hoarding at gate hold room D42/43. This hoarding was removed on 5 April 2021. This establishes that the video was taken before 5 April 2021.

With effect from 23 April 2021 2359 hours, all long-term pass holders and short-term visitors with recent travel history to India are not allowed entry into or transit through Singapore. The same border control measure has been extended to travellers with recent travel history to Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka with effect from 1 May 2021 2359 hours.
