A man has been arrested after he allegedly trespassed into someone's home, leaving behind a mess and its residents rather shaken.

Left behind mess in the kitchen

One Caleb Tay, a resident at the Braddell View apartment complex, a former Housing and Urban Development Company (HUDC) flat, shared in detail the distressing incident in a Facebook post.

Early in the morning on May 27, Tay and his parents were asleep in their rooms when Tay heard a loud sound outside.

Woken up by the noise, Tay said that a topless man barged into his room unannounced.

The stranger then went to one side of his room and opened the window.

Utterly confused at the situation, Tay shouted at the man, asking him who he was and what he was doing in his house. But the man apparently remained silent.

Speaking to Mothership, Tay said that the man was breathing heavily and had an "unpleasant expression" on his face.

The man then slowly strolled out of Tay's room despite Tay following him and continuing to shout.

Eventually, he left their house.

However, it appears the man might have rifled through the family's belongings. Photos and videos Tay posted showed a mess in the kitchen, with several items toppled on the floor and its contents spilled.

Tay also told Mothership that a bottle of prune juice had been taken out of the refrigerator, with an empty cup placed next to it.

Door was unlocked

After the man left, Tay ran out to the floors above and below but was unable to locate him.

He then decided to visit the security office below. At the lift lobby on the ground floor, encountered several police officers with shields.

Tay said the police revealed that a resident had called them regarding a break in. Tay added that a neighbour he spoke to shared that the man had attempted to enter his apartment as well, but was unsuccessful.

In the comments section, Tay revealed that the man was able to enter his house as the door was not locked.

His brother had left for work in the morning, and the family occasionally does not lock their doors if there are occupants in the house.

They also believed that it was safe.

32-year-old arrested

Tay and his family have lived here for 34 years, he told Mothership, and he never expected something like a break in would occur.

"[We've] never had such an unpleasant incident. Our estate is pretty peaceful."

Ultimately though, Tay is thankful that his parents are not hurt. Additionally, nothing valuable was stolen from the house.

In response to Mothership's queries, the police said that they received a call for assistance at 10E Braddell Hill at around 8:22am.

A 32-year-old man was arrested for criminal trespass and suspected drug-related offences. Investigations are ongoing.
