A food court at Boon Keng which employs differently-abled people is offering food delivery by wheelchair to locations within one kilometre in its vicinity.

Known as Dignity Kitchen, the delivery service was announced on May 18 in a Facebook post by the food court, in light of the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) ban on dining in.

Takeaway and pre-orders are also available.

Dignity Kitchen also posted several photos of its riders who deliver meals on their wheelchairs. The service is called Dignity on Wheels.

A team of student volunteers and interns also help out as well

A subsequent post put up on May 25 revealed that interns and student volunteers are also involved in helping the food court meet its delivery orders "from all corners of the island."

According to Dignity Kitchen, different departments spend mornings preparing and packing lunch and high tea sets scheduled for the day.

What exactly is Dignity Kitchen?

Run by social enterprise Project Dignity, Dignity Kitchen is the first food court of its kind in Singapore which trains differently-abled people to work in the F&B industry.

This is achieved via the Train-and-Place programme which gives trainees a chance to develop skills in food preparation, cooking, and serving of hawker fare through a 22-day training programme.

After successfully completing the training, the individuals are then placed in one of Dignity Kitchen's F&B partners.
