Update: We're informed on Nov. 13 that the sale of Recycled Down Jackets will commence on Nov. 16 instead of Nov. 7. We've updated the article accordingly.

With air travel not resuming any time soon, some of us will not be able to experience cold winter weather overseas during the year's end, unlike in past years.

If you are taking this time to clear away your winter wear, here's something for you.

Uniqlo collecting back its down products

Uniqlo will be giving a S$10 Uniqlo voucher to customers who hand in their used Uniqlo adult down products, such as down jackets, coats, and parkas.

You can pass your used down apparel to the store cashiers at 25 outlets islandwide from Oct. 12 to Jan. 31.

The S$10 voucher can be used on any product with a minimum net spend of S$100 in-store between Oct. 12, 2020 and Feb. 28, 2021.

Down recycling project

The collection drive is part of the Down Recycling Project.

Since last September, the initiative has given 620,000 jackets in Japan a new lease of life.

All of the down and feathers from the winter apparel collected are made into new Uniqlo items.

Starting from Nov. 16, Uniqlo will also be selling their Recycled Down Jackets in Singapore at Uniqlo's Orchard Central Flagship store and online.

The jackets will cost S$129.90.

The Recycled Down Jackets is a project overseen by Artistic Director Christophe Lemaire from Uniqlo Paris R&D Centre.

Here's a summary of how the jackets are recycled and made into new items again.
