United States President Donald Trump left Walter Reed medical centre just after 6:30pm on Monday, Oct. 5 (United States time), mere hours after doctors treating him for his Covid-19 infection cautioned that he is "not out of the woods yet".

He returned to the White House shortly before 7p.m., where he took off his mask and saluted, before walking inside.

Background

Trump walked out of Walter Reed after a three-day stay to treat his Covid-19 infection.

He approached his SUV with secret service personnel in masks surrounding him and pumped his fist to the White House reporters, but he did not say anything.

The SUV took Trump to Marine One, which flew him back to the White House within an hour.

Sean Conley, the White House physician, told reporters earlier Monday that Trump will be "surrounded by world-class medical care, 24/7" while at the White House.

Trump is still infectious, but his medical team declined to discuss any potential toll the disease could have on the president's lungs or disclose when Trump last tested negative for the coronavirus.

White House Covid-19 infections spread

Meanwhile, the outbreak at the White House continued as more staff members tested positive for Covid-19.

Press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said on Monday she had tested positive for Covid-19, and sources with knowledge of the matter confirmed to U.S. media outlets that one of her deputies had tested positive as well.
