In September 2020, a Lexus driver apparently drove off from a Shell petrol station in Bukit Timah without paying for S$133.80 worth of petrol.

As a result, a pump attendant alleged that the amount will be deducted off from his salary.

According to the pump attendant, the driver apparently swiped up his Shell card, but the payment didn't go through.

However, the pump attendant didn't check as he was chatting with the driver.

Payment received

In a statement from a Shell spokesperson from Oct. 7, they shared that they have reached out to all of the parties involved in the incident and have brought it to a close.

The payment has been received from the customer and the pump attendant did not have to bear the cost of the transaction.

The petrol company also added that they will review their processes to ensure fairness for all parties.

Here is Shell's statement in  full:

"We would like to thank members of the public for their outpouring of kindness towards our service champion, Uncle Ivan. We have sought to resolve this as soon as this was brought to our attention.

Instances of unsuccessful payments for refuelling occur from time to time and are mostly accidental by nature. We have since reached all of the parties involved in this incident and brought this to a close. The payment has been received from the customer and Uncle Ivan did not have to bear the cost of the transaction.

We will also take this opportunity to review our processes in order to ensure fairness for all parties involved in such instances."
