Food delivery company Deliveroo has announced a new initiative in the name of sustainability.

From Oct. 7, customers will be able to opt for reusable containers from 50 merchants across Singapore.

The containers can then be returned to the F&B merchants at a later date.

How it works

The initiative is a collaboration with local startup barePack, a membership-based service that allows users to access reusable containers at partnered merchants.

Deliveroo customers who are not existing customers with barePack can still use the service:

• Look for the “barePack” option in the Deliveroo app
• Choose from reusable boxes and cups when placing food orders
• Pay a refundable deposit of S$6
• The S$6 will be refunded when you return the containers at any of the 100 restaurants in the barePack network

On the other hand, users who are existing barePack members can opt for the containers without paying the S$6, by entering a One-Time Password (OTP) provided in their barePack app.

Both Deliveroo and barePack assure customers that the reusable containers are collected away from the serving area in the F&B outlets.

Things to note

Note that all customers (barePack members and non-members) must return the barePack containers in-store to any partner restaurant.

However, another perk of being a barePack member is that you can request home-collection via the barePack app, once you have accumulated five containers.

Non-members will also have to create a barePack visitors account to drop-off their container and initiate their refund.

The sum will be processed only when the containers have been verified against their Deliveroo order.
