After the accident

Since then, she has requires assistance to carry out activities of daily living, and is also unable to speak, read or write.

The medical expenses have since left a hefty financial burden on the family.

Ang's husband is currently a contract worker earning around S$2,000 to S$3,000 a month, and the family has also had to hire a helper, The Straits Times reported.

Ang is also receiving subsidies for medical fees through CHAS (Community Health Assistance Scheme).

In July this year, the court had ordered the 21-year-old e-scooter rider to pay Ang S$445,000.

However, Lianhe Zaobao reported that he was not able to pay the sum.

13-year-old girl raises funds with family

For 13-year-old Sophia Chiam, she felt compelled to do something after hearing about the case.

Together with the help of her mother, Chiam had started a crowdfunding campaign in an attempt to alleviate the family's financial burden, according to ST.

The victim's family was consulted over a video call to get their approval to help them raise funds.

She and her family raised the money through various channels such as her school SJI (International) and social media.

The campaign was also publicised at various areas including eateries and clinics.

Chiam's mother, Lisa Chen, previously also told ST that she was "touched" that her daughter wanted to help a complete stranger.

According to the give.asia campaign page, they have raised S$164,079 from 1,458 givers after two months.

The campaign started in August and has since concluded.
