The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) will reduce the flying frequency of their planes during the exam period.
Responding to feedback from Punggol residents
Yeo Wan Ling, MP for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC, said that this was in response to feedback from residents regarding "aircraft noises" during the examination season.
In an image that Yeo shared to Facebook, RSAF will reduce the flying frequency from the day before the start of national examinations, including PSLE, GCE 'N', 'O' and 'A' levels, until the exams end.
The 'N' level exam will begin in Sep., while the other national exams will start sometime in Oct. 2020.
Night flying activities will also be ended earlier.
This is to show support for students preparing for the exams, they said.
Mountbatten MP Lim Biow Chuan had also shared this information on Aug. 29, saying that a few residents had written to him about the issue.
Paya Lebar Air Base to be relocated
Yeo explained that the RSAF planes we hear are either taking off from or landing at the Paya Lebar Air Base (PLAB). These flights are part of operational readiness training, and are crucial to national defence.
Currently, the RSAF has moved 50 per cent of its flying training overseas, with the remaining 50 per cent carried out locally.
The Paya Lebar Airbase will also be relocated nearer to the coast from 2030 onwards, lowering the number of RSAF planes flying overhead Punggol residents.
