Sony's PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Series S will be released for sale this November 2020.

PS5 prices

Sony announced in a live stream on Sep. 17 morning, Singapore time, that the standard PS5 will cost US$499.99 (S$681), while the digital edition, which comes without a Blu-ray disc drive, will cost US$399.99 (S$545).

Both devices will launch first on Nov. 12 in seven countries, including the United States, Japan and South Korea.

The launch date for Singapore will be on Nov. 19, which is when the rest of the world will be able to buy the consoles.

This announcement ended months of speculation about how much the PS5 will cost.

Singapore prices have not been released, but Sony said pre-orders are starting on Sep. 17 at select retailers, but it is unclear which ones.

PS5 games

Sony's Thursday live stream was watched by nearly 1.1 million concurrent viewers during its peak.

It also revealed the line-up of games consumers can expect for the PS5, including a range of console exclusives.

New instalments of the Final Fantasy and God of War franchises will be console exclusives for the PS5.

There will also be a new Harry-Potter themed Hogwarts Legacy that will be released next year.

Xbox prices

Sony's price revelation was in response to its rival Microsoft's big reveal for its Xbox Series X and Series S a week earlier.

The Xbox Series X retails for US$499 (S$680) as well, while the less powerful Series S costs US$299 (S$407).

Both these consoles are launching on Nov. 10 -- two days earlier than the PS5.

Previous price war

In 2013, Sony's PS4 undercut Microsoft's Xbox One significantly by S$100.

The PS4 launched at US$399, the Xbox One sold for S$499.
