U.S. President Donald Trump was in the social media spotlight again after appearing to mispronounce Thailand, as "Thighland".
Trump was speaking at an event in Ohio in a washing machine factory.
In his speech, he talked about how their competitors moved production to other countries to avoid competition. Countries like Vietnam, and Thailand.
Here is the sentence in question.
He appears to catch himself right away, with the second mention of Thailand being properly pronounced.
But the slip up was enough to provide plenty of memes.
“Mr President, I believe Thighland is near Uranus.”

Perhaps the most scathing satire however was by The Thai Enquirer.
Here is their article cover regarding Trump's mispronunciation.
They also changed their Twitter handle.
Debate
And while the Internet was mostly making fun of the pronunciation, Dinesh D'Souza might have gained the most traction during this entire debacle.
Dinesh, a conservative writer who was issued a pardon by Trump in 2018, defended the pronounciation.
Let me clarify. I’m not saying “Thighland” is how it is said in the Thai language. The French say “Paree” but that’s not how it is pronounced in English. “Thighland,” not “Tai-land,” is how English speakers around the world say it

Comments were generally skeptical though, with links to commercials and other videos showing that no one really pronounces it that way.
