Selfless.

A 16-year-old teen helped an injured old man by using the skills he learnt from his National Civil Defence Cadet Corps co-curricular activity (CCA), according to a Facebook post by his brother.

On Aug. 19, Muhammad Aniq was revising for an accounting paper with his brother, Norizam Baharon, at the study area of Block 270 Tampines Street 21.

But they were soon interrupted by an old woman in distress.

Husband fell down and needed help

In the Facebook post, Norizam explained that the woman was begging for help. Her husband had apparently fallen and was bleeding.

She said, according to Norizam: "Aiya, he is dying. Help la. Help la. I don‘t know what to do."

The brothers soon understood the gravity of the situation and hurried to the eighth floor of the block.

Tied a cloth around old man's wound

Norizam wrote that when they arrived in the house, the old man was already on the floor and bleeding, complaining about his painful back.

Aniq subsequently grabbed the nearest cloth and tied it around the man's arm, where the wound was bleeding.

Aniq also constantly assured the old man that everything would be fine.

Norizam explained that Aniq had recently served as a staff sergeant at Temasek Secondary School's National Civil Defence Cadet Corps CCA.

Thus, he knew what to do when dealing with an injured person.

Helped guide the paramedics

As they waited for paramedics to come, Aniq coordinated the "shifting of casualty to his bed" move. To avoid wasting time, he also decided to go down and guide the paramedics to the house.

According to Norizam, the old man was eventually taken to Changi General Hospital (CGH).

He added:

"I was very heartened by the act of kindness and inclusiveness Aniq showcased today. A 16-year-old student had the level of maturity to understand the grave danger and apply the skills he had learnt from his CCA to save a life.

He showed his selflessness clearly especially when he had to sweat it out to ensure the uncle was not losing too much blood."
